The National Vocabulary Championship (NVC)

The NVC, launched in September 2006, is a pro-social educational initiative conceived by GSN to emphasize the importance of language arts skills and encourage high school students to enhance their vocabularies. In total, over 30,000 students nationwide participated in the first year of the program.

GSN has again teamed up with The Princeton Review for the 2nd annual National Vocabulary Championship (NVC) that offers high school students nationwide the opportunity to win $40,000 toward college tuition. This public service and educational outreach program was created to help raise the importance of language arts because they believe building a strong vocabulary helps students unlock the doors of opportunity. The monetary prizes can also help ease the burden of rising college tuition costs that many families face.

As part of the program, they have provided free Princeton Review study materials to help students improve their vocabulary skills for the National Vocabulary Championship, SATs, or other college-prep tests. Students can access these tools and qualify to participate in this year's NVC by taking an online exam at http://www.winwithwords.com/ anytime throughout the month of November.

While they haven't yet announced this year's program (that will happen in September) hi-res images and logos are available from last year's competition. They crowned a $40,000 winner from Madison, WI in March, and received national media attention.
